On a gulf west of Héraklion, next to the village of Agia Pélagia, is the small village of Ligaria. The village took its name from the homonymous wicker plant with its flexible branches and pink flowers, which there are in abundance in the area, giving a striking picture.
The beach of Lygaria is protected by the bay, it has thick sand, its waters are turquoise and calm, and in combination with the caiques and fishing boats that moor in the small picturesque jetty on the west side of the beach, give a magical picture.
